My daughter thinks my husband and I may be having a mid-life crisis. Maybe she’s right. Whatever it is, it does seem to center around the ever encroaching 50 year mark.
All I know is that two weeks ago I told my husband we needed to talk about what we were going to do with the second half of our lives. A few days later he looks at me and says, “Sometime in the future, I would like to sell our camper and our Suburban and buy a conversion van.” A half dozen thoughts flooded through my mind and then one struck home – He’s given some thought about what we should do with the second half of our lives. “Okay,” I replied.
I know my husband well. Either this was just a passing fancy which would never materialize, or this would happen in reality, most likely sooner than later. In this case, it was the latter. Two days later we were the proud (?) owners of a used 1999 GMC Savana conversion van.
For the first couple of days I would break out into laughter when I saw our van. It wasn’t from joy or excitement. It was more like – Really? Did we really just buy a conversion van?
Last week we had our first overnight outing in it. It was splendid! I think I like being a conversion van owner.
